INTRODUCTION It is believed that all conflict is bad, it creates tension, destruction of working relationships and reduces productivity. Therefore, it should be eliminated by all means. In the chosen scenario, on a clinical practice, a second year student was asked by a registered nurse to complete a simple wound dressing for a patient. During the dressing, the registered nurse stormed into the room and glanced at the dressing. After that, she shouted and said that the dressing process is totally wrong and was asked to stop the dressing. She also screamed saying that the she is tired of the incompetent students and they are such a pain. She showed anger on the second year student and stormed out of the room. This made the student upset and she wanted to discuss with the registered nurse about the incident. The following essay deals with the relevant communication framework and its analysis, application in the professional nursing practice. Communication framework The communication framework that is relevant to the case scenario is the SBAR framework (Cornell et al., 2014). This is highly relevant to the case scenario as there was no proper handover of the patient to the nursing student by the registered nurse. During the clinical handover, it is important to standardize the communication that allows the nurses to communicate about the important information about the patient. This ensures patient safety and quality of care. In the given case scenario, the registered nurse should have communicated and demonstrated the patients proper information. She should have provided the accurate Situation, Background, Assessment and Recommendation (SBAR) regarding the type of wound and dressing along with precautions that was required for the wound dressing (Klim et al., 2013). As a second year nursing student, she lacks experience and necessary skills; it is the duty of the registered nurse to provide the appropriate information about the patients conditi on. For a safe working clinical environment, it is necessary to transmit important information to the member of a healthcare team that facilitates collection, organization and information exchange between them (Shah, Alinier Pillay, 2016). During the clinical handover, the registered nurse should have provided a concise statement about the wound and patient problem called Situation. The Background should have been provided where she should delivered pertinent information about the wound type and dressing. Assessment was also important where the nursing student should have properly analyzed the considerations and Recommendation where she should have demonstrated the acquired knowledge and provided proper feedback to the registered nurse. This would have helped her to know the level of understanding in her. Analysis of the communication scenario While analyzing the case scenario, it is evident that there is lack of effective interpersonal communication skills between the registered nurse and the nursing student. As there was ineffective interpersonal communication between them, it developed stress and it had a direct effect on the patients quality of care and safety (Kourkouta Papathanasiou, 2014). In addition, due to this communication barrier, the nursing student was unable to understand and provide feedback on what she understood after the clinical demonstration. In a professional setting, the nurses have the responsibility to care and advocate their voices so that there is no communication barrier in providing patient safety. Interpersonal communication between the healthcare team members has a direct link with the medical errors and patient safety. The nursing student was unable to provide feedback due to the communication gap and this annoyed the registered nurse as she considered her to be incompetent. The elements o f effective communication skills comprises of the nonverbal communication, listening and personal relationships. It is an ongoing process where the gestures and facial expression are important and must comply with the verbal communication (Bach Grant, 2015). In the scenario, registered nurse stormed into the room and then shouted and left the room in anger. This made the student and the patient upset and she wanted to discuss with the registered nurse about the incident. Among the elements of interpersonal communication, the communication process is a tow way process, where the one person talks and the other person listens along with feedbacks. In the case scenario, it was one-way communication, where the registered nurse just advised her to perform the dressing, without even assessing the level of her understanding about the wound management. Feedback is also an important element in interpersonal communication that aids the sender to know how accurately the receiver has received the message. In the case scenario, it was not done accurately as the registered nurse just provided the message without any scope for feedback. As there was lack of good personal relationship between the student and the nurse, she was not able to provide feedback and there was knowledge gap that prevailed in the scenario hampering the patient safety (Xie et al., 2013). Listening is also an important aspect of interpersonal communication. It is vital in nursing practice as proper attention and mobilization of all the information gathered by the nurse are emitted through the patient care ensuring safety. Through effective listening, the nursing student would have been able to understand the type of dressing and procedure that was required for the patient. It would also have ensured the patients needs and integrated care that was according to the evolving needs of the patients. Personal relationships are marked by compassion, kindness and empathy that help to develop good personal relationships among the nurses in a healthcare team (Burnard Gill, 2014). If there would have been good personal relationship between the registered nurse and the nursing student, she could have asked questions with kindness and provided information that did not scare her. On a contrary, the nursing student lacked listening skills as she was not clear with the wound dressin g procedure that she was advised to perform. There was also lack of acceptance and a harmonious relationship that affected the transmission of information between them. Interpersonal communication not only encompasses the transfer of information, but, also consists of emotional and mental dynamics that are required in communication (Hagemeier et al., 2014). Effective interpersonal communication practice is important as asking, screening and clarifying questions helps to focus on the patient safety. The registered nurse should have been present there providing her small amounts of information at a time, checking on how she was performing the dressing and pausing where it was required. In addition, listening, paraphrasing, summarizing, empathizing and making guesses helps to demonstrate the ability of the nurse in providing the patient centered care. If the nursing student would have listened and empathized during the demonstration, it would have been able to access the level of understanding and the doubts of the student (O'Shea et al., 2013). Application of SBAR communication framework SBAR stands for Situation-Background-Assessment-Recommendation that helps to facilitate prompt communication between the members of a healthcare team about a patients condition (Randmaat et al., 2014). It is a technique that provides concrete mechanism for the framing of conversation that requires critical attention and action plan. It is an easy way to focus on the expectations for the patient that fosters a patient safety culture. It helps to communicate pertinent information about a patient during clinical handover. In the case scenario, while advising and handing over the patient to the nursing student, she should have accurately advised and provided her with pertinent information about the patients wound and the dressing procedure (Chitkara et al., 2017). The registered nurse should have explained to the student about the problem and provided her a brief description about the type of wound and dressing called Situation. During this stage, it is important to communicate providing the brief. In Background stage, it is required to provide diagnosis of the patients condition, medical history and current medical status. In this stage, medical-based information is conveyed to assess the data (Blom et al., 2015). In the case scenario, the registered nurse should have demonstrated her procedure of the dressing with the current medical condition and patient history. In the assessment stage, the nurse should have provided the student the appropriate action plan for the dressing with medical aspects of the patient. Impertinent information about a patient can harm the patient safety and quality of care. The vital signs of the patient and the additional concerns about the patient status are also crucial as the course of action given to the patient is determined in this stage. The nursing student should have assessed the procedure of dressing that was demonstrated to her by the registered nurse. Lastly, the recommendation or the feedback where the nursing student should have provided feedback to the registered nurse about what she had understood and the gaps in her knowledge. If feedback would have been to the nurse, she would have been able to understand her level of knowledge and this scenario would have not occurred. Under the Standards for Practice for the enrolled nurses in the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA), Standard 5 demonstrates that the enrolled nurses should collaborate with the registered nurses and with the other healthcare professionals so that it helps to develop the plan of care for the patient under their provision of care (Birks et al., 2016). For this, it is required to develop professional working relationships and clarifies the orders of the nursing care with the registered nurses. Conclusion In the given scenario, there is ineffective interpersonal communication between the registered nurse and the nursing student. During the clinical handover, the registered nurse did not explain the type and procedure of wound dressing and that resulted in the harm of the patient. The case scenario illustrates that there is ineffective communication and barriers prevail between them. The SBAR communication framework is relevant to the scenario as there should have been proper application of SBAR framework during patient handoffs. Unlike diaspora created by force, voluntary immigrant groups, while also maintaining close cultural and spiritual links to their countries of origin, are less likely to wish to return to them permanently. Instead, they take pride in their shared experience and feel a certain social and political â€Å"strength-in-numbers.† Today, the needs and demands of large diaspora often influence government policy ranging from foreign affairs and economic development to immigration.   The Jewish Diaspora The origins of the Jewish diaspora date to 722 BCE, when the Assyrians under King Sargon II conquered and destroyed the Kingdom of Israel. Cast into exile, the Jewish inhabitants were scattered throughout the Middle East. In 597 BCE and again in 586 BCE, Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar II deported large numbers of Jews from the Kingdom of Judah but allowed them to remain in a unified Jewish community in Babylon. Some of the Judean Jews chose to flee to Egypt’s Nile Delta. By 597 BCE, the Jewish diaspora was scattered among three distinct groups: one in Babylon and other less-settled parts of the Middle East, another in Judaea, and another group in Egypt. In 6 BCE, Judea came under Roman rule. While they allowed the Judeans to retain their Jewish king, the Roman governors maintained real control by restricting religious practices, regulating trade, and imposing ever-higher taxes on the people. In 70 CE, the Judeans launched a revolution which ended tragically in 73 BCE with the Roman siege of the Jewish fort of Masada. After destroying Jerusalem, the Romans annexed Judaea and drove the Jews from Palestine. Today, the Jewish diaspora is spread throughout the world. The African Diaspora During the Atlantic Slave Trade of the 16th to 19th centuries, as many as 12 million people in Western and Central Africa were taken captive and shipped to the Americas as slaves. Made up mainly of young men and women in their childbearing years, the native African diaspora grew rapidly. These displaced people and their descendants greatly influenced the culture and politics of the American and other New World colonies. In reality, the massive African diaspora had begun centuries before the slave trade as millions of Sub-Saharan Africans migrated to parts of Europe and Asia in search of employment and economic opportunity. Today, descendants of the native African diaspora maintains and celebrates its shared culture and heritage in communities around the world. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, nearly 46.5 million people of the African diaspora lived in the United States in 2017. The Chinese Diaspora The modern Chinese Diaspora began in the mid-19th century. During the 1850s to the 1950s, large numbers of Chinese workers left China in search of jobs in Southeast Asia. From the 1950s through the 1980s, wars, starvation, and political corruption in mainland China shifted the destination of Chinese diaspora to more industrialized areas including North America, Europe, Japan, and Australia. Driven by the demand for cheap manual labor in these countries, most of these migrants were unskilled workers. Urban Legend of Cry Baby Bridge :: Ghost Stories Urban Legends

Cry Baby Bridge The legend I collected was told to me by one of my softball teammates. My teammate is twenty-two years old. She told me this story on our team bus while we were driving at about noon. The atmosphere was light as a few of my other teammates were listening to, and quoting Dane Cook – a popular comedian. Here is the legend she told: There is this small bridge in a small city nearby. There was a car accident and a small child or baby died. And, um, it was in the local papers. It is said that at night, when your drive over it, you can hear the sound of a baby crying. And you know how signs on the side of the road reflect light and stuff? Well, you can’t see it with normal lighting, but when a car’s lights hit the sign at the right angle, you can see a baby’s footprints. My teammate originally heard this story from her classmates during her junior year in high school. My teammate had no problems remembering the story; she was more worried that I would think she thought it was true. There were pauses in her story telling as I wrote down what she said. She related the story with little emotion or suspense. The laughter in the background also affected the impact of the legend because it is difficult to be scared when there is laughter all around. My teammate also did not make a significant effort to enhance the effect of the story through hand motions or vocal tone inflections. Throughout the United States there are other legends and stories similar to the one my teammate told. A similar legend was told to me by my friend from high school. She is nineteen years old. She originally told me the story our sophomore year. I asked her to re-tell it to me a few weeks ago over the phone. There was not much emotion in her voice. Also, there were not many pauses as she had to tell me quickly because she had a class. In Aurora, Colorado, there is a legend about the Third Bridge. The Third Bridge can be found on Quincy Road heading east out of town. The bridge is next to a power plant in an otherwise, dusty, and deserted area of land. The legend states that a van of young children crashed and everyone was killed. “A Modest Proposal” Essay

Jonathan Swift writes a satirical passage to criticize the England government on their lack of participation in helping the hungry citizens during the years of drought they are experiencing. In his overly exaggerated proposal, he uses an abundance of features of style, voice, and organization to express his point he is trying to make through satire.Swift’s choices on the variety of different features of style he uses were decided upon the fact that this passage is purely satirical. In paragraphs 20-26, Swift uses mature diction to express his standing with the England government. Paragraph 20 says, â€Å"I think the advantages of the proposal which I have made are obvious and many, as well as of the highest importance.† Here he is claiming that this proposal is very important, and that the government should agree with him.He writes like he is well educated on the ideas he is proposing. In essence, this is a legitimate proposal to the government, so his choice in words h ave to sound sophisticated. As his subject is about ingesting children, it clearly makes sense for him to use a refined vocabulary. If he would use his vocabulary loosely, the exaggeration and satire in the passage would not be as obvious.A blunt voice is in use during the passage. Swift approaches his point immediately to present the urgency of the problem he is addressing. England is experiencing drought, which is a serious issue that he feels could be resolved by selling, killing and eating children.In paragraph 25 he states, â€Å"Fifthly, this food would likewise bring great custom to taverns, where the vintners will certainly be so prudent as to procure the best receipts for dressing it to perfection..† He straight up tells us that children will make great food. There is no other way to express this point and get the same effect unless it is done bluntly. He wants the government to recognize their absence in the current issue, and being straight-forward with each point he makes guides the reader to believe that the passage is purely satirical, but that there is an underlying meaning with his satire.The organization of the essay was very structured. It is clear that he  thoroughly thought out each of his ideas, and he presented them in a strategic way to make his point. In paragraph 21 he says, â€Å"For first, as I have already observed, it would greatly lessen the number of papists, with whom we are yearly overrun, being the principal breeders of the nation as well as our most dangerous enemies; and who stay at home on purpose to deliver the kingdom of the Pretender, hoping to take their advantage by the absence of so many food Protestants, who have chosen rather to leave their country than stay at home and pay tithes against their conscience to an Episcopal curate.†This shows he is even thinking about religion and how his proposal will affect everyone else in England. He expresses many stomach wrenching thoughts, which could get very co nfusing if he did not have them structured in an orderly fashion. A mess of ideas about eating children would take away from the actual satire in the passage. The reader would be very mislead and may lose the hint of satire he perfectly presents in his writing.Jonathan Swift composes a proposal to not eat children, but to try and open the governments eyes on the problems they are facing. Through style, voice and organization he pulls off a fabulous satirical piece with immense detail and wonderful diction.

Coservative Revolution essays The American Revolution was not a true revolution as it is revealed to be, but more of a gradual change in American life. Instead of a radical change, it was a result of evolutionary changes that evolved to their way of life. This statement is evident, with political, economic, and social considerations. Within these different ranges of human interest, change had occurred gradually and for some unnoticed. Politically, the governments already had a certain degree of independence, but wanted to be completely free from the oppressive ties of England. Economically, the country was developing strategies for trading with other countries, although it was forbidden, and had also developed a small amount of self-sufficiency to some degree. Social changes were only a progression through time, and a gradual change in what was considered to be socially acceptable and normal behavior in the colonies. Before, throughout and after the American Revolution, there was a noticeable evolution in the political standpoint in the colonies. Starting with the First Continental Congress, progressing to the Second Continental Congress, and finally leading to the Articles of the Confederation, the Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution. After some men were killed at Lexington and Concord, the Second Continental Congress came together to form a semblance of a "temporary" national government. This evolution of a congress is clear as it eventually formed the Articles of Confederation after the war. Even though the monarchy of England left a hatred for a strong centralized government, this type of government was necessary to control and aid the nation. The Revolution set in the minds of people, a love for democracy and the expectation of equal rights. US Budget Deficit History The budget deficit is the difference between the money federal government takes in, called receipts, and what it spends, called outlays  each year. The U.S. government has run a multibillion-dollar deficit almost every year in modern history, spending much more than it takes in. The opposite of a budget deficit, a budget surplus occurs when the government’s revenue exceeds current expenditures resulting in an excess of money that can be used as needed. In fact, the government has recorded budget  surpluses in only five years since 1969, most of them under Democratic President Bill Clinton.   In all-too-rare times when revenue equals spending, the budget is called â€Å"balanced.†Ã‚   [  Debt Ceiling History  ] Running a budget deficit adds to the national debt and, in the past, has forced Congress to increase the debt ceiling under numerous presidential administrations, both Republican and Democrat, to allow the government to meet its statutory obligations. Although federal deficits have shrunk markedly in recent years, the CBO projects that under current law increased spending for Social Security and major health care programs, like Medicare, along with increasing interest costs will cause the national debt to rise steadily over the long term. The larger deficits would cause federal debt to grow faster than the economy. By 2040, CBO projects, the national debt will be more than 100% of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and continue on an upward path – â€Å"a trend that cannot be sustained indefinitely,† notes the CBO.   Notice particularly the sudden jump in the deficit from $162 billion in 2007, to $1.4 trillion in 2009. This increase was due primarily to spending for special, temporary government programs intended to re-stimulate the economy during the great recession of that period. Economists do this by comparing the deficit to Gross Domestic Product (GDP)- the measure of the overall size and strength of the U.S. economy. This â€Å"debt-to-GDP ratio† is a ratio between the cumulative government debt and the GDP over time. A low debt-to-GDP ratio indicates that the nation’s economy is producing and selling enough goods and services to pay back the federal deficit without incurring further debt. In simple terms, a larger economy can sustain a larger budget, and thus a larger budget deficit. According to the Senate Budget Committee, in the fiscal year 2017, the federal deficit was 3.4% of GDP. For the fiscal year 2018, when the U.S. government operated under its largest budget in history, the deficit was estimated to be 4.2% of GDP.   Remember, the lower the debt-to-GDP percentage, the better. Clearly, the more you spend, the harder it is to pay back your debts.

Lack of cooperative administrative institutions encouraged the country’s industrialists to develop significant influence and power, which eventually toppled the Weimar republic. The military in the Weimar republic was highly autonomous and since it was one of the major institutions responsible for protecting the country against aggression, the government was compelled to make policies favourable to the force, creating further instability (Davidson, 1978:57). The autonomy in the military resulted in formation of private armies, such as Freikorps which undermined sustenance of stable and peaceful political environment. According to Davidson (1978), citizens inclined to democratic governance were violently suppressed by private security agencies. The apparent failure of the Weimar republic to discipline and take control of these security agencies exposed the public to threats and intimidation, which eventually undermined sustainable development of dem ocratic government in Germany. Moreover, formation of many political parties necessitated formation of coalition government which made it more difficult to manage and run a successful government (Kershaw 1998:94) Several key events took place from 1918 to 1924. In October 1918, the military government handed power to civilians. In the following year, internal revolutions, violent uprisings and mutinies took place in Germany, creating political crisis. However, a constituent assembly was formed in January 1919 and new constitution promulgated seven months later. In June 1919, the treaty of Versailles was signed, a developed that severely undermined the incumbent government. In the beginning of 1921, German economy experienced high inflation, which developed into hyperinflation in 1923.
